Its about time...
Great news! I actually ended up working last night. I couldn't even believe it. I wanted to jump up and down in joy but held myself back. It was actually somewhat of a crazy night though. I had a rough time staying awake and there was no Pepsi on the floor. The only caffeinated drink available was coffee but I don't drink that so I had to suffer through 13 hours caffeine free. It was rough. I am not going to lie. I am truly addicted. My patients kept me busy the first half of the shift but once midnight struck, everything slowed to a complete halt. I tried reading. I tried crossword puzzles. I tried responding to emails but NOTHING was working. Through some miracle, 430 AM came around and I hit the downward slope of the night where I am busy for the next couple hours clearing IV pumps, checking everyone's lab values and vital signs, making sure their fluid intake and output is adequate, giving report to the charge nurse, doing shift summaries and then giving report to the oncoming nurse. I was so happy to leave and be able to go home and sleep. However my sleep was short lived. My two cats were driving me bonkers. They missed me terribly last night and decided it was time to get up and run around the house like chihuahuas on crack. So I locked them out and tried to get some zzzzz's. I did manage to sleep a good 4 1/2 hours before my alarm went off. It was my mother's birthday today and we had a lunch date with her best friend and another friend of ours. It ended up being a fantabulous lunch at Paula's mexican restaurant. Afterwards, we went on a tour of Teryn's new house which happens to be right down the street from me. Then we went shopping at Krumpets, one of my favorite home decorating stores. I ended up getting this awesome antique looking clock that says Paris and has the Eiffel tower on it for only $10. It was a steal! I'll have to post a photo of the birthday dessert and my new clock later but its off to bed now. Tomorrow we have a family dinner/birthday party at the family cabin in Pine Valley. Its going to be awesome. My uncle and his kids are even in town from Idaho so it should be fun to catch up with them. Good night!
